An Empirical Study On The Factors Influencing Information Systems Outsourcing Performance

On the basis of extant literature about Information Systems Outsourcing (ISO) and outsourcing performance, we built a conceptual model of the relationship between cultural similarity, relational norms, innovation capability, knowledge sharing, boundary spanning and ISO performance, and proposed fourteen hypotheses about them. We considered boundary spanning as a moderator of the model. To test these hypotheses, we designed a questionnaire, and conducted a field survey of the employees from about 20 outsourcing enterprises'information systems department in Beijing Zhongguancun Software Park, Shanghai Pudong Software Park, and Xi'an Software Park. Finally, we collected 293 samples. We used SPSS16.0 to conduct descriptive statistical analysis, cronbach'sαreliability analysis, construct validity analysis and Pearson correctional analysis. Then we applied a tool of structural equation model analysis Amos 17.0 to confirm the theoretical model and the hypotheses.The empirical results show that relational norms and knowledge sharing both have significant impacts on ISO performance. However, cultural similarity has a weak correlation with ISO performance, and negatively affects ISO performance. Meanwhile, innovation capability doesn't influence ISO performance significantly. Cultural similarity affects both of relational norms and knowledge sharing significantly, and relational norms has significant impacts on innovation capability and knowledge sharing, and also innovation capability influences knowledge sharing positively. Besides, boundary spanning activities between the vendor and the client only positively moderate the relationship between knowledge sharing and ISO performance.
