With the development of technology, the alternative fuel vehicles represented by Battery Electric vehicle, Hybrid Electric Vehicle and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle have been emerging since last 90s. Nowadays, owing to the voice of environmental protection, the tension in international energy supply and the rising oil price more and more countries are concerned with the R&D (Research and Development) and industrialization of alternative fuel vehicles. Developed countries have valued new energy as the new economic growth engine since the Finance crisis. America, Japan and the European Union have started propelling their industrialization of alternative fuel vehicles and have got certain practical achievement. With the rapid development of the economy, Chinese demand for Vehicles is also increasing quickly. China has become the largest vehicle market of the world in 2009. This could lead to rapid increase in demand of petroleum and dependency of domestic petroleum consumption on import. Environmental pollution and greenhouse gases emission would be worse. In such a context, it is practically significant to develop alternative fuel vehicles in China. From one hand, the development of alternative fuel vehicles can not only reduce oil dependency and keep energy security but also can protect environment and sustainable development of China. From another hand, the whole international atmosphere of alternative fuel vehicles will promote the auto industry of China to a new stage. China has come up with some successful measures relevant to developing alternative fuel vehicles, such as implementing some favorable policies, arranging some pilot regions and so on. Meanwhile, there are still some difficulties, such as the sluggish consumption in alternative fuel vehicles and the expected excessive capacity of manufactures due to the stimulation of certain national policies. The industrialization of alternative fuel vehicles means the development of the whole Industrial chain. But, there is a lone way to go for China in the core parts, facility coordination and industrial standards. America, Japan and the European Union have reached a sale of hundreds of thousands alternative fuel vehicles per year in their domestic market. On the issue of alternative fuel vehicles industrialization these countries have their own experience which has certain reference value for Chinese industrialization of alternative fuel vehicles. Thus, learning from the experiment of pioneer countries to consummate our alternative fuel vehicle industry became an important topic for propelling the industrialization of alternative fuel vehicles.Based on theories of Industrial Economics, Sustainable Development, Management, and taking advantage of document analysis, comparison research and, case analysis, this thesis expanded from the topic of alternative fuel vehicles and analyzed how to speed up the industrialization process of alternative vehicles in China. The first chapter describes the background and significance of the topic. On the base of the results of domestic and foreign scholars' precious study, this paper put forward ideas and research methods of it. This dissertation first discussed the development situation of alternative fuel vehicles in China on the basis of definition, classification and characterization of alternative fuel vehicles. The first chapter describes the background and significance of the topic. On the basis of the results of domestic and foreign scholars'precious studies, this paper put forward ideas and research methods of itself. The second part discusses the definition, classification and characterization of alternative fuel vehicles. The following part analyzes the possibility and necessity of developing alternative vehicles industry in China and discusses the problems in the process. The forth chapter is about the experiences especially experiences on specific industry policies and development of industry chain from US, Japan and some specific European countries to deal with the problems talked above. Finally, this dissertation comes up with the possible enlightenments of the experiences from the US, Japan and some European countries on the industrialization of alternative fuel vehicles in China.
