Drill pipe automatic conveyer is commonly known as automatic catwalk, which isattached to the peripheral equipment of rig on the floor to implement the automaticreciprocating transport of drill pipe between the drilling platforms and the ground emissionsframe. At present, many domestic wellsites are still using traditional catwalks to transferdrill pipes, which causing serious phenomena such as the labor-intensive and poor securityfor workers and low degree of automation and this is far behind the advanced drillingindustry technology of developed country. Thus, these issues in the domestic drillingindustry need to be solved urgently. This paper focuses on the key technology of drill pipeautomatic conveyer and the main contents of this paper include structural and workingprinciple, parameter calculation of key components, energy-saving mechanism anddynamics characteristics of working device. The main research works and conclusions arelisted as follows:Firstly, this paper introduces the research background and significance and reviews theresearch and application status of the drill pipe automatic conveyer based on the relevantdomestic and foreign literatures. Depending on design requirements and workflow of drillpipe automatic conveyer, this paper designs schemes of hoisting mechanism, transferringmechanism and energy-saving mechanism of working device, and researches these issuesincluding mechanical characteristics and structural parameters calculations of keycomponents of working device, and selection and application of main components of thehydraulic system.Secondly, this paper establishes multi-rigid body dynamics model based on multi-bodydynamics software ADAMS and extracts characteristics curves such as velocity,displacement and acceleration of drill pipe, force of hydraulic cylinder, hinge point force oftransferring mechanism and so on. Then this paper verifies the theoretical calculationsresults and evaluates the working performance of the energy-saving drill pipe automaticconveyer.Finally, this paper establishes rigid-flex coupling dynamics model of drill pipeautomatic conveyer including flexible bodies of luffing cylinder piston rod, telescopichydraulic cylinder piston rod and the tappet based on finite element software ANSYS andmulti-body dynamics software ADAMS. According to the simulation results, this paperextracts characteristics curves of velocity, displacement and acceleration of drill pipe and compares them with the simulation results of multi-body model to verify the keycomponents of the stiffness to meet the design requirements. On the other hand, this paperextracts stress nephogram and dynamic stress curves of dangerous location node of luffingcylinder piston rod, telescopic hydraulic cylinder piston rod and the tappet and verifies theintensity to meet the design requirements. Through the research on kinematics, dynamicsand intensity of energy-saving drill pipe automatic conveyer, this paper verifies thefeasibility of working device, and provides a theoretical guidance method to optimize thedesign of drill pipe automatic conveyer and also has high value of engineering application.
