Second generation acrylic adhesive (SGA) comprising acrylic and/or methacrylic monomers,toughening agents, initiators, accelerators and other additives, enhances the toughness and impactstrength of metal to metal bonds, as well as the ability to bond metal surfaces, even oily metalsurfaces, with little or no surface preparation. The products prepared by cured adhesive havegood performances on curing, bonding strength and toughness at low temperature.In this paper, the effects of preparation processes, initiation systems, toughening agents,fillers, mainly monomer and polymerization agent on the adhesive properties were studied.Products were characterized by Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), FourierTransformed-Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC). Theexperimental results showed that SGA had excellent bond strength when the weight content ofCHP, TMTU, SiO2and BHT was5%,3.5%,2%and0.2%, respectively. With PTMEG1000,MDI and PETA as raw materials the polyurethane resin PU-2was synthesized, which had thebest toughening effect on SGA. We chose PU-2or FNH-103as toughening agent, whenmagnesium-aluminum alloy self-bonded or bonded with PC-ABS. The bonding strength of thecured adhesives firstly increased and then decreased with the adding of the amount of NBR orPU-2, while ABS resin had little effect on it. The test results of the SGA adhesive, which wasmade from MMA as the main monomer and PU-2as the toughening agents, showed that theviscosity of A and B component was6246mPa·s and4634mPa·s, respectively, and the lap sharestrength was11.86MPa. The SGA adhesive had rapid curing, good storage stability and higherbonding strength.Polyurethane adhesives have good low temperature resistance, excellent impact resistance,and high shear resistance. The two-component polyurethane adhesive is an important componentof polyurethane adhesive and has been widely used in many fields.In this paper,the influences of isocyanate, polyol, fillers and catalyst on the adhesiveproperties were discussed. Products were characterized by DSC and FT-IR. The experimentalresults showed that the adhesive composition had good performance when the weight ratio ofPAPI: MDI-100LL was1:2, the weight content of A-2000(in the total mass of CP-2058andA-2000)was between70~80%; the weight content of TMP was3.52%; the weight content oftalcum powder was20~25%; the mixture ratio of nNCO: nOHwas1.1; and the weight contentof composite catalyst was0.5‰. The test results of the adhesive showed that the viscosity of Acomponent was1.32×104mPa·s; the work-life was43min; the tack-free time was6.1h; the tensile strength was3.78MPa; the tensile shear strength (wood to wood) was2.59MPa; and thehardness (shore A) was74. The product has been successfully tested and the properties wasconformed to the requirements of application.
