The increasing rate of the development of Dongying has brought a great impact on the surrounding ecological environment. The construction of the city has caused varying degrees of damage and pollution to the local soil, water quality, climate and other environmental factors. In order to guarantee coordinated development of resource exploitation and sustainable industry, to restore and improve ecological environment has great significance to Shengli oilfield inYellow River delta which has a shorter history with fragile ecological environment and relatively low carrying capacity.This article firstly introduces the basic concept of ecological carrying capacity and ecological footprint, the relating concept of ecological footprint model as well as ecological footprint. It then makes a detailed description of the content of ecological footprint theory. Secondly, it makes a more detailed description of the basic status of the ecosystem in Dongying. Thirdly, by using ecological footprint model, it calculates the ecological footprint of Dongying from2006to2011and the results are analyzed. The impact of the development Dongying on the nature is beyond the ecological carrying capacity and ecological deficit appears. The current model of development in Dongying is not sustainable. The demand and supply of ecological carrying capacity is imbalanced so that the ecological environment isn’t in a safe state. Finally, by the calculation results of ecological footprint model and the problems, it put forwards speeding up the construction rate of green oilfield, building resource-saving production system, improving the administrative mechanism to strengthen environmental protection efforts as well as advocating green lifestyle from the public’s point of view, establishing a resource-saving society to improve the ecological carrying capacity of Dongying so as to ensure its sustainable development.
