As a kind of heat exchange equipment in process industry,Tube and shell heatexchangers are widely used in petrochemical industry because of its simple structure,convenient manufacture and easy management. But with the development of socialeconomy, the traditional tube and shell heat exchanger with high energy consumption hasbeen unable to meet the needs of economic benefits. In recent years, due to the growingproblems such as energy shortage and environment pollution, energy conservation isacknowledged as the important way to solve the problem of energy crisis. With its highheat transfer efficiency,corrugated tube exchanger has been developmened well andapplicated widely.Corrugated tube the core of the corrugated tube exchanger is hard to design due to thecomplexity of its structure. Some important design parameters of corrugated tubeexchanger,such as the strength, stiffness and natural frequency, is difficult to calculatethrough the basic formulae. In view of this, researching the mechanical properties of thecorrugated tube is of great significance.Firstly,with the Finite Element Method, this paper states the analyses of the strengthand stiffness of a condenser corrugated tube. Then,this paper respectively discusses theinfluences of S, L, R, D2and D1on various stress distribution and stiffness of thecorrugated tube in the case of other parameters are invariant.The result demonstrates that inthe same conditions of loading and external constraints,the stress distribution and the axialstiffness of the corrugated tube is much more complicated than that of the straighttube.And corrugated tube wall thickness is of the largest effect on its bearing capacity andother parameters have an effect to a certain extent.And the parameters of the corrugatedtube are of great influence on the stiffness which has a linear rule change within a certainscope. Based on the above influence on stiffness change, this paper gives the axialstiffness prediction model of Φ20/25corrugated tube. At last,the corrugated tube was been on a structure optimization research with FiniteElement Method.Under the premise that ensuring heat transfer area, the structureoptimization can reduce the corrugated tube stress and improve the service life. The resultshows that its heat transfer area increased by10%and the stress was reduced by10%afterthe optimization.Thus it can be concluded that the finite element method is of veryimportant in structurae optimization.
