The Research Of Inlay Silver Decoration In Furniture Design

Weifang is located in the Shandong Peninsula, and it is an important cultural ancient city and handicraft industry city of Shandong Province. After development within thousands of years, Weifang boasts traditional culture with a long pedigree and rich magnificent folk art. Folk arts is carrier of regional culture, the witness of historical development, precious cultural resources of great value and an important part of Chinese civilization. This paper studies on Weifang folk arts and crafts "Inlay Silver". Through fieldwork and analysis on related documents, this paper studies on the modern application of inlay silver decoration, as well as its adaption in furniture design. The aim is to find a feasible new path for the modern inheritance and development of inlay silver modern inheritance and development by its application in furniture design.Based on analyzing and generalizing the background, developing process, existence status and inheritance significance of inlay silver, this paper does in-depth analysis on the decoration techniques through material, craftwork and pattern. Conclusions come out that the integration of material and craftwork shows the composite beauty, exquisite handwork highlights the worth,theme and pattern enriches the humanity beauty and decorative features focus on natural affinity; by identifying modern people’s needs and the developing trend of furniture design, the application improvement of inlay silver in furniture is analyzed from three aspects of craftwork semi-mechanization, environmental friendly material processing and decoration pattern modernization; considering design practice, inlay silver’s application in furniture design is analyzed from four aspects of modeling suitability, material economy,craftwork rationality and decorative moderation.This study supplements the researches on Weifang inlay silver decoration craftwork, presents the decorative features of inlay silver, fills the blanks of its theoretical study, gives certain theoretical basis for its application in modern furniture design, broadens the sphere of traditional handicraft and supplies examples and reference for the inheritance and development of similar handicraft.
