The Research Of "Smoked Bamboo" Furniture Design Based On The Xiangxi Residential Decorative Symbol Features

"Smoked bamboo" is a new green material through the "smoky heat treatment", it owns the advantages of not mildew, not easy to crack, which is a better material than the other bamboo, and meets the requirements of furniture design and manufacture. With the improvement of people’s material, they began to focus on the pursuit of spiritual and emotional needs. People’s consumption has shifted from simply using the basic function to emotional or spiritual content based on the basic function. This paper studies the traditional dwellings of Western Hunan dingbats, which is the essence of Hunan culture over thousands of years. Combining decorative symbols of Hunan Western and "smoked bamboo" material properties, then designing furniture makes it conform to the trend of social development at the same time, and can also cause strong emotional resonance. So the paper studies on traditional decorative symbol in Hunan Western houses used in the interpretation of "smoked bamboo" furniture design and explores details of folk House decorative symbol features in "smoked bamboo" furniture design in Western Hunan.The paper is based on the "smoked bamboo" material properties, aimed on decorative symbols of traditional houses in West Hunan, studies from shape, function, structure and other aspects of folk House decoration characteristics, to design Hunan style "smoked bamboo" furniture.First, analysis and summary of decorative features in Western Hunan (including four aspects:overall styling, decorative color, decorative component, and structures) and material characteristics and aesthetics elements of "smoked bamboo". Full interpretation of this two aspects content put the early foreshadowing for the deduction of decorative symbols in "smoked bamboo" furniture in West Hunan houses. Second, through analysis of those two aspects, conclusion be obtained that material properties of "smoked bamboo" and decorative symbols in West Hunan houses have many commons in style features, bent degrees, color, material form, and decorative techniques. Then, analysis the reality based, principles, contents and methods of decorative symbols in West Hunan houses deducted in the" smoked bamboo" furniture. At last, describe theory research of "smoked bamboo" furniture design with decorative features in West Hunan houses from styling, structuresand function elements, and put it into three sets "smoked bamboo" furniture design practice such as "hanging feet love", "Horn of song", and "cornices volley".The paper can provide theoretical guidance for the designing and researching of bamboo furniture, especially in furniture design and research based on specific cultural symbols. It can not only meet the growing spiritual and cultural needs of people, but also create more abundant bamboo furniture, and provide references to other kinds of furniture design.
