The Study Of Doll Design Based On The Local Culture In West Hunan

Driven by the concept of cultural power, the local culture has emerged as a hot research topic and also gained increasingly more attention from the scholars in various countries. It should be noted, however, that some of distinctive cultural resources in China have not yet been well developed and utilized, therefore failing to transform the resource advantage into the industrial advantage. The local culture in West Human has been featured by a long history and abundant resource, which has also given it an innate strength in developing cultural products. Therefore, it has stood out as a topic of great research value to look deeper into the value of cultural resource in West Hunan as well as transform it into typical cultural product.Based on the features of the research project and subject, this paper has made an in-depth analysis on the theory of cultural gene derived from the concept of gene in the field of biology and also provided some advices for the design practice. By combining the literature review and theoretical research, this paper has made a feature of the distinctive local culture and resource in West Hunan so as to dig out the culture gene. From the perspective of doll design, this paper has also made a study of the application value of the cultural gene in West Hunan and proposed the design theory and rules accordingly. Much effort have been made to study the cultural gene in West Hunan, explore more materials suitable for doll design as well as develop a series of typical products with the local culture. Firstly, a clear definition of the concepts related to local culture and cultural gene will be given so as to study the similarity and dissimilarity between cultural gene and biological gene as well as better explore cultural materials with the gene in the cultural context of West Hunan. What is more, the current situation and underlying problems of the doll product in West Hunan will be also summarized. It has been found that the essential reason is the lack of deep understanding of the local culture in West Hunan. Secondly, the cultural gene of the doll in West Hunan will be also broken down for further analysis. It is also well appreciated that the local culture in West Hunan is a special culture that is mainly made up of Chu culture(mainstream), Ba culture (branch stream)and Han culture (apparent stream)as well as featured by the mystery, primitiveness and innocence. In addition, the primitive cultural gene, folk cultural gene and revolutionary cultural gene have been also well summarized so as to study the features of cultural gene in West Hunan in a comprehensive manner. Thirdly, the biological terms such as gene and mutation have been also introduced in the inheritance and innovation of the cultural gene of the doll in West Hunan. It is pointed out that the essence of developing doll product in the cultural context of West Hunan is to inherit and innovate in the cultural gene of West Hunan. The methods of carrying out innovation in doll design based on local culture of West Hunan are also proposed. Besides that, this paper has also come up with some principles of developing doll based on the local culture in West Hunan, such as the primitiveness, authenticity, subjectivity, systematization and innovation. Lastly, the cultural materials suitable for the doll design related to West Hunan have been also further refined, including the original witch cultural gene, folk cultural gene, costume, primitive dancing, folk arts and crafts as well as the revolutionary cultural gene, so as to carry out the innovative doll design according to the systematic theory.In theory, this paper has also integrated the culture of ethnic minorities such as Miao and Tujia so as to enrich the research related to nationality. In the meanwhile, this paper has aimed at the cultural gene of West Hunan and also provided some cultural insights into the innovative development of doll product featured by local culture, which has also enriched the theoretical resources available to the doll designer. Therefore, the development of doll product will provide the theoretical basis and practical value for West Hunan to establish its own cultural brand, enrich the tourist souvenir as well as enhance the touring taste.
