This paper takes the1121(1) working face’s track drift in Zhuji Coal Mine as theproject background. For this roadway with high pressure, high gas, a longer strikelength, faults and other difficulties, theoretical analysis and measuring on the spotmethods are used, we analysed the overburden structure of thin coal pillar along goatand mantfestation law of ground pressure and researched deformation characteristic ofadjoiningrock and the adjoiningrock’s stabilities in different periods. We got thefollowing main results:(1) Through the characteristics of adjoiningrock’s stress field, the relationships ofthe adjoiningrock and qualitative/quantitative analysis of factors that affect width ofcoal pillar, we can conclude the relationship between width of coal pillar and thesefactors.(2) Researching the stability of small coal pillar along the gob-side entryretaining and the effect on the deformation of the surrounding rock in driving tunnelwith different width of coal pillar and different anchoring strength of rock bolts, aconclusion was drawn that the width of the coal pillar is the decisive factor whichaffects the stability of the coal pillar and the deformation of surrounding rock.(3) Through FLAC numerical simulation, we got four aspects distribution:displacement field distribution、surrounding roadway deformation、horizontal stressdistribution and the vertical stress distribution. As simulation results were comparedand analyzed, different stress distribution characteristics was showed between thedigging roadway and the small coal with the changing of the width of the pillar. Thenwe determined the rational coal pillar width of thin coal pillar along goaf.(4) According to the theory of the high system support strength can control thedeformation of surrounding rock efficiently and the roadway maintenance features,we proposed support programs and parameters based on the bolt rope active supportof the roadway along goaf, which was used successfully in practice.The results of thisreach can offer theoretical basis and reference to the leaving coal pillar and supportdesign along roadway along goaf.
