Ecological land refers to the land type which has ecosystem services function, it is of great significance in the improvement and maintenance of the city and protect the ecological balance and stability of the regional ecosystem. Chongqing is a famous city in southwest China, Now, in the background of high-speed urbanization construction land’s disordered expansion, and it’s misappropriation other types of land, led to the normal functioning of the ecosystem has been interference and destruction., and urban development and the contradiction between the ecological environment is very sharp. As a famous mountainous city, In this paper, By analyzing the past13years the metropolitan areas of ecological land use spatial structure evolution and the resulting value of ecosystem services. And explore the coupling between them, to promote the sustainable development of mountain cities in southwest China, provide a scientific basis for scientific decision-making of the Chongqing City and implement the scientific concept of development especially. What is more, this research has a significance to the development distribution of mountainous city in Southwest district, coordinating urban development spatial, enhancing regional ecological environment and so on. In this paper, using RS, GIS and other technical means, by analyzing remote sensing images of the urban area of Chongqing in13years1996-2009,and in accordance with the connotation of ecological sites, urban Ecological land is divided into five categories, they are Farmland, Woodland, Water, Grass and Other land. On this basis, use the assessment method of the value of ecosystem services, evaluating and analyzing the value of ecosystem services from time and space in this period, to explore the coupling between the two variations. At last, explore improvement of ecological environment in urban area of Chongqing and promoting sustainable development about policy recommendations and key technologies of urban planning based on ecological concept. The main conclusions and results are as follows:Firstly, Ecological land area decreased significantly in the Main Urban Area of Chongqing within13years1996-2009. In this time, The internal structure of ecological land showing this variation:with the dramatic increase in urban construction land, farmland sharply reduced, but woodland, water, grassland and other land has increased significantly; the changes of the spatial distribution of ecological land showing the expansion to the north-south direction with the urban construction land, the most serious area is between Zhongliang mountain and Tongluo mountain.With the reduction of the scale of ecological land the value of ecosystem services decreased sharply in the urban area of Chongqing in1996-2009. But with the government to increase the magnitude of the ecological woodland planting in inside of urban areas in particular, the Jinyun mountain, Zhongliang mountain, Tongluo mountain and Mingyue mountain region. These ecological land with great ecological value plays a huge role in the ecological balance of the entire metropolitan area. So during2007to2009, significant increase in total ecological value of Main Urban Area in Chongqing.Because of the special mountain landscape of the urban area of Chongqing, it is unique on urban ecological protection. This paper in accordance with such exceptional circumstances, combined with the actual situation of the urban area development, and put forward spatial structure and layout optimization strategy of the metropolitan area.
