Research On Annotation Of Science And Technology In Meng Xi Bi Tan

Shen Kuo was a famous politician and scientist in the Northern Song dynasty. He had many writings in his life, in which, specially, his masterpiece Meng Xi Bi Tan played a decisive role in the Chinese history. For the political needs of "Pi Lin Pi Kong" and "Zun Fa Pi Ru" during the Great Cultural Revolution, Shen Kuo was listed as Legalism. His masterpiece Meng Xi Bi Tan was focused. There are many annotations、researches and translations all over the worlds. Some of editions include natural Science as their main content. These annotations and translations are beneficial to the scientific thoughts and technological achievements of this masterpiece that formed beautiful landscapes in that special era. In virtue of the differences at majors、 scholar attainments、backgrounds and interests, editors had a lot of differences and contradictions on their annotations and comprehensions. Therefore, the author compares and researches some explanatory notes of science and technology of four main editions during the period of the Great Cultural Revolution. It can not only find out the accurate meaning of the writing, but also get a glimpse of the situation on the research of annotation of Meng Xi Bi Tan during the Cultural Great Revolution.Having selected the four main editions, the author compares and researches in terms of astronomy、geography and chemistry. The author explains some doubts and disputes and moreover discusses its influence in the history of science and technology during the Great Cultural Revolution especially during the twentieth century.Specifically, This dissertation consists contents as the following five chapters:Introduction Part: Introduction of Historical Background; Research aims; Research status; Research methods; Main innovative points and shortcomings.Chapter One:The author selects two significant calendars named "Shi Er Qi Li "(Twelve Calendar) and "Feng Yuan Li "(Feng Yuan Calendar) as the examples to research. The essay makes dialectical analysis on the recordation that Shen Kuo took about Wei Pu, and points out the mistake that the former scholars made on "Pang Tong Li "(Pang Tong Calendar).Chapter two:Comparative research on the annotation of the methods how Shen Kuo measured Bian Qu and compiled "Tian Xia Zhou Xian Tu "(The World States County Map).Chapter Three: Comparative Research on annotation of three accomplishments in Chemistry:"Method of Hydrometallurgy of Copper", "Method of Filling Steel" and "Method of Making Hai Zhou Salt". It not only points out the mistakes that Shen Kuo made in the cognition of Filling Steel, but also generalizes and analyses the Method of Making Hai Zhou Salt with modern scientific theory.Conclusion. Using the three research results in Astronomy, Geography and Chemistry, the essay shows the great significance that Meng Xi Bi Tan is of in the history of science and technology in China.The work of Meng Xi Bi Tan and annotation about it provides not only a convenient way for the young learners of history of science and technology, but also a rich ore to the entire scholastic field.
