Climate Change Cognition,Social Responsibility And Public Mitigation Action

Extreme weather and climate events, and meteorological disasters caused by climate change become more frequent. Nowadays climate change has been a hot topic in the world and concerned by more and more people of the society. In order to limit climate change, not only needs the government actions, but the participation of the public.This thesis based on the data CGSS2010 to analyze the influence factors of the Chinese public mitigation actions with variance analysis and the ordered probit model. The results proved that:(1) Groups of different gender, different education background, different age and different family average annual revenue have extremely significant differences in reduction behavior and climate change cognition, the group of different age showed the most significant differences in mitigation actions, followed by gender, household income, the last is the education background. In the two variables reasons of climate change cognition, the groups of different gender, different age,different education background, and different family average annual revenue showed highly significant differences in the climate change causes cognition, the group of different age showed the most significant difference, followed by gender, family average annual revenue and education background; Groups of different gender, different age, different family average annual revenue have significant difference, the biggest differences of harm cognition showed in the group of different age, followed by gender, family average annual revenue and education background.(2) Public cognition on causes of climate change and harm extent can significantly influence the mitigation actions, harm extent is higher than the cognition of causes; For the social responsibility, public attention to environment issue and public goods protection consciousness also have a significant impact on the mitigation actions, but obeying the traffic rules, policies and regulations, laws and regulations have no significant influence on public mitigation actions. For the groups of different characteristics, gender and the reduction background also have significant difference in mitigation actions, women are more willing to take mitigation action than men, the better the education background, the higher of the degree of effort for mitigation actions, the family average annual revenue and age have no significant effect. Of all the influence factors, the highest influence degree of the mitigation actions is public environment awareness, followed by climate change harm cognition and public goods protection consciousness was ranked third place. From above conclusion, the environment awareness, the cognition of climate change harm extent and the influence of public goods to protect consciousness ranked in the top three, followed by gender, education background and cognition of causes of climate change.The results fully demonstrated the public mitigation actions will be affected by climate change cognition and social responsibility, providing a scientific basis for governments and relevant departments, and also have some reference meanings for the governments’ propaganda work in mitigation actions of climate change.
