Plant factory as the most advanced stage of agricultural facilities, has attracted a widespread attention around the world, especially for the country whose resources are poor.Plant factory is considered to be an effective means of solving the problem of population and resources. With a high hope to solve the problem of population and resources, plant factory also reflectspeople’s pursuit of modern lifestyle and space technology of our society:with the advent of family-type plant factory, people can enjoy the most fresh and clean vegetables in their own homes; NASA’s eco-chamber (Biohome) can product food to support one person to live in space. Energy consumption has limited the development of plant factories, and the rapid development and technology breakthroughs of LED industry in recent years allows researchers of pant factory to find a better light source which is more conducive to improve energy efficiency of plant. In a background of plant factory, we start our research in the context of light, which is mainly about the effect of light quality on plant growth, and we try to find the light matching best to plant by measuring the absorption spectrum of plant to maximize energy efficiency and improve the quality of vegetables. First, we discuss the effect of light quality on plant growth. In the discussion we try to illustrate the important influence of light quality on plant growth, and light quality contains light spectrum, light intensity and photoperiod. Then we explore the absorption spectrum measurements of chlorophyll and leaf by a series of experiments, during which a serious of questions are discussed. Then we give plant photosynthesis spectrum measurement program and discuss a range of issues which need to be consideredduring photosynthesis spectrum measurements. At last, we introduce a solar energy utilization system, who is a very good application example for the spectral measurements of plants.
