In 21 st century, the earth has gotten into earthquake multiple period, the society had been suffered huge losses, in Wenchuan earthquake and Yushu earthquake, etc. To reduce the losses that earthquake cause, developing the study for seismic risk assessment is very necessary. Urban earthquake are generally caused by underground buried active fault movement, which happens in urban area, so active fault surveying has important meaning for understanding urban subsurface geologic condition in time, judging the existence or nonexistence of underground buried active fault, and inferring whether an epicentral earthquake will occur or not. Active fault surveying contains such work content, controlled drilling hole exploration, cross-fault drilling hole exploration, shallow seismic exploration, etc., so it obtains much complex and various data, how to manage the data and display them through 2D or 3D, to improve scientific research worker’s efficiency of query, examination, application, etc., are important and difficult points in latter earthquake research.This paper is based on active fault surveying and seismic risk assessment project of Nantong, the main work are as follows:(1) It did in-depth analyzing and studying for available active fault surveying database, and adequately understand about the model structure and design ideas of available active fault surveying database. To be based on this, it improve some design of active fault surveying database, forming active fault surveying database model of Nantong.(2) It collected and arranged the surveying data, collection data and achievement graphs, etc., transformed the surveying data into spatial data, and use united coding rule coding the data to unified manage them.(3) It completed data loading of surveying data, collection data, achievement graphs, etc., forming active fault surveying database of Nantong.(4) It did in-depth study, analysis and summarization for available 3D geological model research and 3D geology modeling methods of drilling hole. And it choose MVS software to build 3D stratum model of Nantong drilling hole, forming 3D fault model and 3D stratum mode of Nantong.(5) To be based on active fault surveying database, active fault 3D stratum model of Nantong, it finished the exploiture of active fault 3D visualization system of Nantong, through Arc GIS Engine software development toolkit and C# programming language.The underground 3D model of active fault in Nantong is built in this research, combined with the 2D result maps, the underground distribution, trend, activity and age are visually displayed, which reduces the workload and difficulty when the relevant staffs query and analyze the active fault. Thus, this research provides some technical support to the seismic risk assessment and the subsequent seismic reinforcement to the existing buildings and newly built projects siting.
