Coal resources is a vital part of mineral resources. The main purpose of coal resources investigation is to investigate the distribution, scale and reserves. After the investigation, it can change the current situation of coal geological exploration lag and solve the problems of lack of available capacity of coal resource development and uneven development distribution and other issues. In addition, coal resources investigation database system is an effective tool for the resource survey. Therefore, in order to adapt to the strategic requirements of the country’s coal resources for long-term development and to realize scientific management and rational planning of the existing coal resources, the developing of the Coal Resource Investigation Database System has become a major issue that should be resolved.The main task of the coal resource investigation database system is to provide help for the relevant government departments and geological workers when they do the decision-making, management and services work. However, due to the original data and the results data of coal resources investigation derive from many ways and it has the characteristics of multiple sources and wide variety of formats, there are still some problems and deficiencies in the management of coal resources, such as blank of resource investigation database management, single data source, database updated in real time difficult,drawing and database is separated, data security control ability is not high and so on.In view of the above problems and the characteristics of coal data,the paper will build a coal resources investigation database system. On the basis of actual survey data of coal resources, the Coal Resources Investigation Database System is built on the platform of MAPGIS, depending on GIS technology, spatial database technology and Visual C# development language.The system can integrate,manage and analysis the original data and the result data efficiently.The paper uses the C/S model design, based on object oriented programming idea.On one hand, the system use Map GIS SDE for SQL Server to store space data, moreover data organized in a survey area as an unit. On the other hand, we classified all kinds of original data,such as scan photos, charts and tables,test report and other data. Then we built a database integrated of spatial data and non-spatial data automatically. After that we use the region number associated with spatial data to achieve integration of query retrieves and statistical analysis and provide more comprehensive technical support services for decision-makers.
