The Social Constructivism And Chinese Studies On STS

Social constructivism, a scientific idea of the Edinburgh in the 1970s, has become an international influencial thoughts in the contemporary western philosophy of social science.The common view of social constructivism is that some knowledge in some areas is products of our social practice, or results of the negotiation of related social group interaction. From the view of science, technology, sociology and other subjects, Social constructivism guides the concrete practice by looking forward to the integration of social and constructiveness, and overcoming absolutism of modernism and relativism of postmodernism. However, with the development of the social constructivism, "science wars" makes "more turns" (latour), and such aspects as properties of ideas, development situation and evaluation standard, appear an uncertain similar "family". Opening "black box" of social constructivism, you can see several representative "turns", such as ANT turn, STS turn, the rhetoric turn, technical turn, culture and so on. This article mainly studies how social constructivism turns to the STS and influences the Chinese STS research.Social constructivism turning to STS is not active overnight, but an evolution process of thought, which is also the emergence and development process of how social constructivism turn to STS. STS is the abbreviation of science, technology and society, a comprehensive interdisciplinary study on the relationship between science, technology and society in. From the 1960s, it began in Europe, Ameirica, Japan and other developed countries gradually. After the reform and opening up in China, experts and scholars in the field of philosophy and science disciplines also carried on the extensive discussion on the relationship between the science & technology and society. Especially in the early 1990s, after foreign STS was introduced to domestic as an emerging discipline, the STS research in China also entered the white-hot state gradually. The research methods of social constructivists have considerably influenced on science and technology research, enriching the Chinese scholars to studying details greatly. Domestic scholars have fruitful achievements of the research on STS, but involve less the problem of the relationship between the STS and the social constructivism.Based on the idea that STS is a comprehensive interdisciplinary, this paper describes how social constructivism turns to STS by combining the research purport of Chinese STS development and the historical & social constructivism, putting Chinese STS research under the background of social constructivism theory. Then, it discusses the Chinese STS research development and current situation. Thirdly, to the problem of STS study in China, it studies the influence of social constructivism to the STS study in our country. Lastly, it puts forwards the social constructivism important enlightenment to Chinese STS study.
