This paper used polyphasic taxonomic approach to identify two bacteria, strain NEAU-ST10-40 and NEAU-ST5-33, which are isolated from saline and alkline soils in Songnen Plain. Genotypic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic characteristics were used to determine the phylogenetic position of strain NEAU-ST10-40 and NEAU-ST5-33.Strain NEAU-ST10-40 was isolated from the 5-10 cm deep saline-alkaline soil in Anda City, Heilongjiang Province. It was strictly aerobic, rod-shaped and motile by peritrichous flagella. It formed light yellow colonies and grew at optimum Na Cl concentrations of 8 %(w/v), at optimum p H 8.0 and at optimum 30 °C. It contained meso-diaminopimelic acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan. Oxidase-positive and catalase-positive. The predominant respiratory quinone is MK-7 and main polar lipids are diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol. The major fatty acids(>10 %) are C15:0 anteiso, C17:0 anteiso and C16:0 iso. The DNA G+C content of the type strain is 39.3 mol%. Based on phylogenetic analysis of NEAU-ST10-40 belongs to the Halobacillus. In conclusion, on the basis of its genotypic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic characteristics, we propose that strain NEAU-ST10-40 T should represent a novel Halobacillus species, with the name Halobacillus andaensis sp. nov. The research paper of the new species has been published in the reputed journal as IJSEM.Strain NEAU-ST5-33 was isolated from the 5-10 cm deep saline and alkaline soils in Dechang Township, Zhaodong City, Heilongjiang Province, China. Cells are Gram-stain positive, strictly aerobic, non-motile and coccoid. It formed beige-yellow colonies and grew at optimum Na Cl concentrations of 0 %(w/v), at optimum p H 7.0 and at optimum 35 °C. The cell-wall peptidoglycan is of L-Lys-Ala3(type A3α) type. Oxidase-negative and catalase-positive. The major menaquinone is MK-8(H2). Main polar lipids are diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol. The major fatty acids(> 5 %) are C15:0 anteiso, C15:0 iso and C16:1 ω7c and/or C16:1 ω6c. The DNA G+C content of the type strain is 61.2 mol %. In conclusion, on the basis of its genotypic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic characteristics, we propose that strain NEAU-ST5-33 T should represent a novel Kocuria species, with the name Kocuria dechangensis sp. nov.
