With the increasing activities of exploitative and utilizing resources in the islands, the protection and management of island’s natural resources are imperative. The purpose of the lands’ use change information analysis is to set island planning, realize the land resource’ effective protection, scientific management and sustainable utilization. With the GIS spatial analysis technology, land use transfer matrix was made a deep analysis in this paper. The calculation method of land use change and the computational model of land use dynamic degree is improved, and the method of land use change information analysis based on the transfer matrix is proposed in this paper. The comparative information between all types of land use transfer and exploration of the land use evolution information are deeply mined. Meanwhile, the shape analysis model of shoreline is proposed to fill the blank in the island changes analysis of geographic conditions monitoring which the method is based on expansion index, fractal dimensions and compact ratio. The island changes driving mechanism is studied by Pearson correlation analysis from the two aspects of qualitative and quantitative. In this paper, the main work and innovation are as follows:(1) The determination of land cover data classification index in IslandAccording to the classification system and standard of “Specifications for Feature Classification and Codes of Fundamental Geographic Information” and “Contents and indexes of Geographical Conditions Census”, formed the islands land cover classification index. Combined with the characteristics of the class distribution of the island, divided into nine categories of farmland, garden, woodland, grassland, residents, roads, etc.(2) Study on the changes of the land surface elements of islandThe land use changes in the numbers and the direction is analyzed by the calculation method of land use change to from the three aspects which are net change, swap change and total change. The modified land use dynamic degree models can monitor the change process of land surface elements and explore the deep information of land use evolution. Taking Dongtou island as the experimental area, the results of the land use showed that the changes of structure, water, forest were obvious.(3) Study on the shoreline morphology change of the islandIntegrated expansion index, fractal dimension model and compactness model, the shape analysis model of coastline was constructed to analyze the coastline spatial form. The expanding process of the coastline is analyzed combined with the principle of expansion index. The fractal of the coastline is described and analyzed based on the theory of fractal dimension with the grid method which are the different level spatial scales in the study area. The morphology stability and satiation of the shoreline is analyzed with the method of the compact ratio which is introduced in this paper. The results show that the shape of coastline change was alternating, and the change was obvious in 2010.(4) Analysis on the driving factors of the changing islandUsing Pearson correlation method, the driving mechanism of the changing island is analyzed quantitatively, through choosing indexes from the society and economic. The roles and impacts of the land surface elements change are analyzed qualitatively which are caused by natural factors or human social factor on the Dongtou island. The research shows that the social and economic drivers were significant in the changes of the surface elements of the island during the short study period.The experiment results also demonstrate that the proposed method of land surface elements change could effectively obtain the dynamic change information of land use, and excavate the land use evolution information. These results would provide the reference for the research on the island change analysis of geographic conditions monitoring, and would be greatly helpful for management and decision-making services.
