Grassland community, a major component of the wetland ecosystem in Poyang Lake, plays a vital role in ecological functions. The distribution of grassland communities islargely affected by environmental factors such as hydrology, soil physical and chemicalfactors, micro-topography and so on. To explore the relationship between plantcommunities and environmental factors in wetland, sampling methods were employed toinvestigate grassland communities and soil properties in Dahuchi wetland, located in thewest of Poyang Lake, Jiangxi province in the year of2012and to analyze the relationshipbetween the two. The results showed that:(1) Ten species were found in the study belts, belonging to7families and10genera.Along the direction toward the lake grassland communities were in the order of Erigeronannuus community, Eremochloa ophiuroides community and Carexcinerascens community, the type of which transferred from mesophyte to mesohydrophyte. It was suggested that community height strongly and positively correlated withaboveground biomass in each community. The values of community height andaboveground biomass were both as follows: Eremochloa ophiuroides community<Erigeron annuus community<Carex cinerascens community. Margalef richness index,Shannon-Wiener diversity index and Simpson dominance index of3communities wereincreased and Pielou evenness index was decreased with decreasing elevation. Thus, thestructure of the communities became simpler.(2) With the elevation drop, wetland soil moisture, ammonium N and available Pcontent in3communities showed a clear upward trend, while the trend in soil pH, salinity, organic matter, nitrate N and available K were not significant. Wetland soil nutrientsremained basically unchanged.(3) Correlation analysis showed that soil moisture positively correlated withcommunity height and coverage at0.01level, aboveground biomass at0.05level. Andthere was negative correlation at0.01level between soil moisture and Margalef richnessindex, Shannon-Wiener diversity index and Simpson dominance index. There wascorrelation at0.01or0.05level among ammonium N, available P and community height,Margalef richness index, Shannon-Wiener diversity index and Simpson dominance index. In conclusion, soil moisture was the dominant factor determining vegetation communitydistribution in Dahuchi wetland, while the effect of ammonium N and Available P wereweaker.
