This dissertation discusses sustainable development models of rural tourism. The author believes that there are two kinds of rural tourism models in China: one is dependent on the metropolitan/city experience, and the other is based on rural/scenic spots. Tourists who choose to visit former one almost come from surrounding big cities, and they are inclined to revisit, so it is easy for them to become repeat customers. For those who favor rural/scenic places, guests are typically sightseeing visitors who may never return. After investigating and making surveys in Beijing and in Guizhou province, the author concludes that the two cores of sustainable development for rural tourism are rural tourism localization and"dividing"; rural tourism localization may occur in two ways. The first is rural tourism industry-chain localization and the other is rural tourism runners in accrete harmony. The development model depending on clients from big cities may adopt the strategy of creating a new"home", and the model one dependent on scenic beauty spots should probably use the strategic concept of"sightseeing".
