Road affects the environment around them in many aspects , including removing original land cover, fragmenting habitat, altering landscape structure and function, and increasing disturbances from human beings. With the development of research on road ecology, there has been an increased interest in the effects of roads on landuse. Xishuangbanna, which located in the southernmost area of Yunnan Province, its large area of tropical rain forest had an unique status in our country's forest vegetation type. However, the road construction in Xishuangbanna was very fast in recent years, its ecology influences become more severely. For this reason, the main road which play an important role in social economic development was selected as representative research object to probe into the land use and land cover change (LUCC) and the landscape dynamics on the two sides of the main roads from 1976 to 1988, and from 1988 to 2003.In this paper, based on land use maps of 1976, 1988, 2003, which were interpreted from the Landsat MSS/TM/ETM imageries, and the map of main road, with the buffer analysis tool in ArcGIS 8, we studied the land use and land cover change on the two sides of the main roads in Xishuangbanna, then we studied the impact of population density and the topographic factor on road effects.During the study both the comprehensive land use dynamic degree model and the land use degree comprehensive index model are taken into account, we put forward a compensatory model—"amendatory comprehensive land use dynamic degree model".During last 27 years, compare with Xishuangbanna, the land use intensity on...
