After over 20 years of reform & opening-up and economic development, China has become one of the largest traders in the world with foreign trade as an increasingly important driver for the sustainable development of China's economy. However, China is also faced with severe credit risk in the foreign trade development. The lagging evaluation effort may be one of the causes of the ineffective credit risk management and continuously growing credit risk in China's foreign trade enterprises.Corporate credit risk management has become a new realm in China's economic theory study, attracting more and more attention. As a critical step in credit risk management, credit risk evaluation is of great importance to proper credit granting and credit risk control and worth of in-depth study. However, due to some historical reasons, both the credit risk management practice and study in the field of foreign trade in China is far behind those in developed countries, and is still at the beginning stage generally. Especially, the study of credit risk evaluation for foreign trade enterprises is very weak in China, which needs urgent strengthening. For the above reasons, based on the theory and practice of corporate credit risk management both at home and abroad, this paper is to analyze the weakness in the current study of credit risk evaluation, and by combining logical and empirical analysis methods point out the severity of corporate credit risk in China's foreign trade and that the lagging evaluation effort is one of the causes of the ineffective credit risk management and continuously growing credit risk in China's foreign trade enterprises, and then try to establish a credit risk evaluation system for domestic foreign trade enterprises. Though this paper is limited to some study conditions, hopefully it can be of some help to enhancing the credit risk management and evaluation efforts for Chinese foreign trade enterprises.
