Biometrics indicates the identification of a person by means of the certain biological features for instance, fingerprint, iris, face and palmprint or behavioral characters. We can not only use it to strengthen but substitute the traditional identification facilities as well, while at the same time, it is becoming a more and more potential technology in contemporary society. Plamprint recognition and verification are gaining popularity and diverse application, for the reason that they are considered to be non-invasive, low cost, and natural biometric technologies.Palmprint identification belongs to a new branch of biometric technology. In respect that palmprint has the uniqueness and stability which is similar to fingerprint. The identification system established on palmprint technology is convenient and effortless to capture image, and more important, it can also be applied into the household security, social welfare, financial and ecommerce areas. It is acknowledged that palmprint identification technology will be served as a new research and application field for personal certification. In this dissertation, it has been inducted the further research on the fusion and registration of palmprint images using the basic theory of the image fusion and registration.This part lays stress on the research of the weighted average fusion method, the grey level selection fusion method, the Laplace pyramid fusion method and the image fusion method. This part has presented the experiment consequences and the detailed analysis to the current main evaluation criteria of the image quality will be continued to proceed. This research based on a similar graph established on objective quality assessment algorithm for image fusion. The experiment results have been shown.There are three categories of the present registration methods: the first one is established on the gray information, the second of which is the transform domain, and the last one is the characteristic. The registration method established on the characteristic points seem more rapid and simple to manage and process, and it is sturdy on the changes of images'situations, and which is becoming one of the most all-pervading registration methods at present time. The SIFT algorithm is applied in palmprint images. The paper also illustrates the performances of image registration via many experiments under different situations of palmprint images, including the rotating, scaling, blurring etc. It has been widely confirmed that the SIFT algorithm can be effectively applied in the extraction of palmprint features.
