With the increasing requirements of strip thickness and shape, especially the expend of strip product caused by the development of continuous casting and continuous rolling, the requirement of strip width precision is higher. Automatic width control of roughing mill has been studied in this article, which was based on the 2300 hot strip mill.According to the phenomenon of width losing in slab end, the spread of slab end including edger pressing, dog bone spread and nature spread, short stroke control was used in 2300 hot strip roughing mill. According to the width problem in the middle of the slab, the rolling force feedback control and the feed-forward control were used. At the same time, necking compensation was used to eliminate the partial width deviation, and taper compensation was also used. Based on the study of rolling force feedback width control system, the following results have been obtained:the mill modulus influences the ability to eliminate export width deviation, and the ability to eliminate export width will be insufficient if the mill modulus is too small. The "GM" feedback gain influences the response speed of the system, and the response speed will be quicker if the "GM" feedback gain is bigger. When the rolling force feedback gain and the efficiency of edger are satisfying certain relations, the width deviation will be zero.Finally, because of the disadvantage of broken line used by 2300 hot strip mill, the parabola model has been proposed in this article, and the online implementation plan of parabola model has been given. The broken line model and the parabola model have been contrasted by simulation, which indicates that the control effect of parabola model is better than the broken line model.
