With the widening use of IPv6 and the integration of internet and mobile communications, IPv6-based mobile communication attracts more and more attention. As an efficient complementarity to IPv6, mobile IPv6 provides well solutions to mobile node's mobility and communicating performance under Internet. It has become a hot research field. But since this protocol is still primary and immature, some of the crucial mobile IPv6 related key technologies have deficiencies. If the related problems are not solved in time, commercialization and development of mobile IPv6 will be seriously suppressed.Based on the thoroughly research and study of the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 technology, which is the Mobile IPv6's extension, we find that in the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6's network, the mobile node's selection of the MAP has a profound influence on the management of the MAP, the utilization of network resource, the load of the MAP. So a mechanism named as prediction-based MAP selection algorithm is proposed after considering the mobile node's speed and track. This mechanism is different from the default in HMIPv6. It's not to select the highest hierarchical MAP or the nearest hierarchical MAP, but to select the most suitable one based on the velocity and direction of the mobile node by comparing and analyzing the highest and the nearest, and managing the resource of the MAP node.In this thesis, some technologies about mobile IPv6 and Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 are introduced first. Then a MAP selection mechanism based on prediction is proposed after the knowledge of the MAP in the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 network is investigated, also the extension of Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 and some modification in the NS2 are introduced. At last, by analyzing the simulation result and experiment data, the feasibility of the mechanism mentioned above is validated.
