Nuclear power together with hydropower and thermal power, are the three pillars of Electricity Industry. There are several advantages of nuclear power , including cleanness, well developed techniques and supply capacity. As early as in 2004, Chinese government has made a plan of nuclear power development before 2020—increase nuclear power generating capacity by 6% of the country's total power generating capacity, and will strongly support it. Radiation Protection must be considered in safe production and daily maintenance in nuclear power plant. Because Radiation Protection design optimization is important for workers'protection and improving maintenance efficiency, it is getting more and more attention with development of nuclear power technology.VR(Virtual-Reality) has many advantages such as immersing and interacting, so it has been widely applied in training and simulation. Radiation protection is one of important application fields of VR. By surveying VR's application in Radiation Protection at home and abroad, a VR-based Radiation Protection prototype system has been designed and developed with cooperation with NCEPU. The dissertation is about the system's architecture and some key technologies. Main contents including:(1) System Architecture Design: The system consists of there parts, which are Dose-Computing module, 3D virtual main programs and Data file system. Dose-Computing module computes radiation dose distribution around construction of nuclear power station; 3D virtual main programs simulate constructions and maintenance procedure, visualize results of dose-computing and design interfaces with Dose-Computing module; Data file system is the bridge between the above two modules, including 3D model file and IO files of the compute module.(2) Ogre Based Volume Visualization: Based on Ogre, do research on how to visualize the Radiation Dose distribution of construction of nuclear power station in virtual scenes for helping maintenance persons to determine operation scheme. This dissertation mainly use 3D Texture based Volume Rendering method, with graphic hardware to render rapidly, give a View-Aligned based plane computing method.(3) A VR-based Radiation Protection prototype system has been developed to demonstrate and verify the dissertation's research result.
