Visual Inspection System of paper defects uses camera to take photos of papers fast, and uses computer processing, classification, and then automatically determine the type of paper defects. Typical paper defects are holes, cracks, stains, creases, transparent spots, dust and so on. The nature of the paper defects, such as form, size, structure, location, etc. can reflect the origin of paper defects, based on its effective characteristics, it can be precisely classified.This paper describes the principle of the machine vision inspection, research status and development trend, according to the characteristics of the paper defects vision inspection, discusses the overall design scheme of the system. The main research work carried out as follows:First, this paper introduced the concept of machine vision and its using in paper defects detection, and gave a brief introduction of research status and development prospects of paper defect inspection based on machine vision.Second, according to the requirements of high speed, high precision, real-time procession in paper defects detection. designed a visual inspection for the application of real-time image processor model, using the mixed structure of FPGA + DSP.Third, in the XILINX ISE4.1 integrated development environment, using Verilog HDL language completed a video image acquisition and pretreatment programming design, and completed the simulation.Fourth, according to the establishment of FPGA+DSP-based image processor model, designed the hardware and finished the PCB design, which were detailed introduced.Fifth, researched the realization of image processing algorithm in high-performance DSP , developed efficient and practical image processing identification procedures, and gave the program flow chart and detailed instructions.Sixth, realized the video image acquisition and processing hardware and software design and debug, initially completed the set up of visual inspection system, and conducted the preliminary test of the system's performance.
