With the development of communications technology and the demand for wireless network services, innovation in wireless networking technology is promoted. WLAN Mesh network is a new network model of WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network), with Mesh networking technology, and new wireless network structure. It has the advantages of good reliability, rapid deployment, high robustness, flexible structure and be easy to install, can be non line of sight transmission. It is a high-capacity and high-speed distributed network, with a very broad application prospects. WLAN Mesh Network, with its unique advantage, has been applied in the wireless city, large parks, public safety, government enterprises, ports, oil fields and campus, in all aspects of social life with its wide range of applications. "Last mile" scenario is very special, challenging to get great wireless coverage, so it becomes wireless network communication bottleneck and the wireless access problem is urgent to be solved. This article describes the development of WLAN Mesh, protocol standards and key technologies, analyzes the WLAN Mesh network structure and characteristics, studies networking of the typical scenarios about schools, hospitals, emergency communications, and so on. Study focuses on wireless Mesh network technology application in the coverage of "last mile", analysis of scene features and the network needs; also on node set, frequency planning and equipment selection. Then introduces the NS-2 network simulator basic principle, and the technique to extend the NS-2 modules to build the multi-channel multi-interface (MCMI) simulation platform. The platform is suitable for simulation about the scenes with great demand for the network, more scenes obstacles, Mesh AP distributed intensively. According to the simulation program of typical design on the representative actual scenario, with the multi-channel multi-interface technology, it can more effectively solve the interference problem, reduce delay and packet loss rate, increase throughput, and improves network performance .
