Simulation is an important research method for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). With the title of"Modeling and Simulation of Wireless Sensor Networks Based on OPNET", the thesis systematically studies the technologies of WSN OPNET modeling and simulation, which has important academic value and practical significance in promoting the development of WSN simulation study and Subject of Measuring and Controlling. The thesis is supported by the Natural Science Fund of the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education (No.NCET-08-0211) and Guangdong Province (9151007010000001).The thesis firstly analyzed the domestic and international research status of Sensor Node protocol stack and simulation tools, then researched OPNET modeling methods of WSN and developing of sensor WSN Node simulation model, and finally did simulation experiments on Target tracking. The work mainly includes the following parts:①Systematically researched modeling and simulation methods for WSN based on OPNET. Proposed a hierarchical OPNET modeling method for WSN after establishing the mapping relationship between WSN architecture and OPNET simulation mechanism; Pointed out that modeling of Sensor Node was the key of modeling of WSN, and then proposed a Sensor Node Architecture for simulation model which provided the base for Sensor Node modeling; Indentified the method of realizing the Sensor Node simulation model based on the Targeting tracking application.②Developed OPNET process models for Sensor Node protocol stack which included 4 layers e.g. application layer, network layer, MAC layer and physical layer. Pointed out that the function of application layer could be divided into dealing of information flow and realizing of Tracking Alogrithm, and developed the Process model it corresponded; Improved the DD protocal based on application of Target Tracking, researched modeling method for Network Process, and developed the Process model; Respectively analyzed IEEE802.11 MAC protocol and OPNET wireless Pipeline Stages, and provided the usages of MAC process and OPNET rx/tx module.③P roposed an OPNET modeling mechanism of realizing the building and management of topology function, researched modeling method for Topology Process, and developed the Process model.④Innovatively proposed an OPNET modeling and simulation method of Energy model for WSN and a simulation mechanism for hypnotizing & waking up the network using to reduce energy consumption, and developed the Energy model process. Pointed out the modeling of energy model can be realized in three stages, and developed the Energy model process by bringing in RM battery model which could imitate the energy consumption with higher accuracy.The results proved that the modules of WSN node model are capable of realizing expected function, and WSN node model is feasible to be used in Target tracking application with abilities of counting the whole network energy consumption, individual node energy consumption, and estimating the network life period.
