The Customer Information File System (CIF) is commonly used to manage customer-related information for enterprises. It is a supporting system for modern enterprises'operation and management activities. With increasing competition in the new century, data collection and management of bank customers attract more attentions of personnel at all levels. For this reason, it is very urgent of building an enterprise-level Customer Information File System which can be accessed by all kinds of applications and used by different levels of personnel. The research of this paper is based on the customer information system of a state-owned large commercial bank (hereinafter referred to as bank A). Compared with the similar systems in the industry, the design and implementation of our system have the following distinctive technical characteristics. Firstly, the processing power and capacity of our system achieve a high level in the industry. At present, the system manages about 500 million customers, and processes more than 60 million online transactions one day while keeping the average response time within 50 milliseconds. Secondly, this paper proposes a new data model based on the characteristics of customer information. This model can well support the online transactions and statistical analysis of the bank. Thirdly, the standardization of information is massively considered in our system. Lastly, this paper proposes a new data migration method, which uses the two-way merge algorithm and is implemented in A/B double-stage. This method provides a new idea for reliable and efficient large-scale data migration on productive systems. Since the research and development of the system proposed in this paper is a long-term process and needs ongoing perfecting, this paper includes the introduction of the preparation work and future work in addition of the description of the main part of the system. The system is written in C programming language, and runs on the IBM Z/OS, DB2 and CICS middleware. The client of the system is written in SLANG programming language, and runs on UNIX and uses ACBS as the technical framework. The data exchange between application and CIF takes a format of a fixed-length string or XML, which has better flexibility and scalability. The system proposed in this paper has been running in the bank A, and achieved good economic and social benefits. This system also gets the certification as a scientific achievement of the Peoples Bank of China, and is proved to be a well designed and advanced customer information system architecture which has been patented and achieved the leading level in our country.
