The work of 3GPP to define a long-term evolution (LTE) for 3G has started from the end of 2004. LTE will stretch the performance of 3G technology, thereby meeting user expectations in a 10-years perspective and beyond. The fundamental targets of this evolution are to further reduce user and operator costs, improve service provisioning. This will be met through improved coverage and system capacity as well as increased data reduced latency.The paper's main task was to design and implement downlink datapath for LTE mobile tester. So first a general introduction of LTE system was given and LTE downlink key technologies, such as channel coding, scrambling, modulation and MIMO techniques, were studied. Then attention was paid on downlink signal generation, downlink physical channel processing. After that the paper investigated picoArray's development KIT picoTools and gave a brief introduction of picoChip's CPE7203 integrated development board, the main development platform of this paper. Then the paper proposed the architecture design of LTE mobile tester, determined the downlink datapath development process for LTE mobile tester, designed the overall structure of LTE downlink datapath and analized the throughput requirement of downlik datapath. A lot of effort was put on the designing, coding and testing of each module. At last the paper verified the implementation through three ways: comparation with Matlab platform, verification by 3rd parth test vector and analysis by aid of testing equipments. Communication between LTE mobile tester downlink datapath and test UE was established successfully, demonstrating the implementation scheme provided by the paper was a time-saving and low-cost solution for LTE downlink baseband function.
