In order to meet the challenge of Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access system (WiMAX), maintain and enhance the competitiveness of Third-Generation(3G) technology, the third generation partnership project (3GPP) organization passed the 3G long term evolution(LTE) scheme in the end of 2004. The fundamental targets for LTE are reduced latency, increased data rates improved system capacity and coverage as well as reduced. operator costs. It was formally incorporated into the 4G standard by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in the end of 2010.As an evolution of the TD-SCDMA standard, TD-LTE air interfaces use Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access mode. It should be called "revolutionary" rather than "evolution ". This "revolutionary" makes the system inevitably lost much of the backward compatibility. It has to do large-scale replacement in both network side and terminal side. This paper presents a hardware-based physical layer solution of the TD-LTE downlink multi-antenna system. This paper firstly clarifies theoretical background and related technologies of TD-LTE downlink, including downlink physical channels, downlink physical signals, OFDM/MIMO technology and so on. Then it introduces the hardware environment and development process of the CPE7203 board. Secondly, the overall design and downlink throughput analysis are detailed. It raises the algorithm design and hardware implementation method of each module as well, which includes convolution coding, Turbo coding, rate matching, MIMO processing, resource mapping module and so on. Finally, the process of hardware development and debugging is presented. Correctness is verified using the test vectors and test equipment. The hardware performance meets the requirements of design specifications. It can be used as an alternative for demo and production.
