OTN (Optical Transport Network) integrates advantages of both SDH and WDM. It holds large bandwidth for high speed data services and supports flexible schedule for big granularity, also it has perfect maintenance and administration capabilities at WDM layer. OTN will become the core technique of next generation of backbone transport network since it supports big granularity for data services, large capacity for cross-connecting equipments and flexible schedule for transparent transporting services. As a dispatch hub, OTN equipment must have the super-large capacity electrical cross-connecting function, or they will limit its trunk node function in a large application.The research in this thesis is sponsored by National 863 Key Project "OTN key technologies and equipments", focusing on the design and FPGA implementation of OTN electrical cross-connecting function, and the scheme in this thesis has passed the test validation. At the same time, the research focuses on standards about OTN carrying 100GE services and puts forward relevant recommendations.The main contents of this paper are as following:1) Analyzed the characteristic and existing international application of OTN electrical cross-connecting function. Accomplished requirement analysis and brought forward an implementation scheme.2) Accomplished scheme design of OTN ODU (Optical Channel Data Unit) electrical cross-connecting function based on VC (virtual container) granularity switch chip, including the partition of function modules, module interface design, FPGA implementation and test validation. The test results show that the scheme is feasible and right. The core idea of the scheme is implementing ODUk granularity cross-connecting based on existing switch chips by transforming cross-connecting granularity from ODUk to VC. Since existing commercial VC switch chips are mature and cheap, both develop period and cost are cut down.3) Studied IEEE 802.3ba and ITU-T G.709, focusing on standards and key technologies about OTN carrying 100GE services. Analyzed the difference in mapping procedures and OTN carriers among various solutions and indicated proper applications for each solution. At the same time, provided some proposals since the OTN multiplexing and mapping mechanism has changed by the kind of client services increasing and mapping procedures improving.
