Sound localization is an interesting technology with broad prospects, it locates the position of source via sound signal. Since Sound localization system has advantages of imperceptibility, test non-destructive and so on. It is widely used in many fields in our everyday lives such as military, disaster relief and detecting.Traditional sound localization system is mainly based on microphone array localization technology, the drawback is the large size of array, limitation of coverage and low positioning accuracy. In recent years, with the development of micro-electronics and communications technology, sound localization system based on wireless sensor network technology is becoming a hotspot. Compared with the traditional microphone array technology, it is smaller which means easy to set. It has greater coverage and the positioning accuracy is also higher. At the same time the structure of the whole system can be adjusted to fit the actual environment, so it has better environmental adaptability.This paper presents a sound localization system which constructs of multiple detecting nodes, and based on wireless sensor networks.The detecting node of this system, is based on a four-element microphone array, it determine the basic information of source, and transmits the information to the control node. And the control node gives out the final position of source.The main flow of system can be divided into 3 parts, pre-processing of signal, delay estimation and localization.This paper first develops algorithms which fits the indoor environment, then test the algorithms with simulation, implements it on the system of ADI Blackfin 527 series DSP, and verified the system through experiments. The Experiments show that this system has a good accuracy of localization in indoor environment.
