With the increasing of media types and communication applications brought by IMS business, there are more and more rich content to draw people's attention. Users have to frequently switch among various applications. Moreover, there are a lot of communication service standards, and the interoperability among them is very difficult. All of these reasons mentioned above led to inconsistent communication experience of users. RCS established interoperable standard of IMS communication through the integration of existing standards(eg IETF, OMA, 3GPP), and provided enhanced and integrated services, finally resolved these issues. A variety of application servers form an important component of IMS architecture and provide various Value-added Services. It is necessary to implement a RCS Server which supports IMS standards. GSM Association has released two versions of RCS in December 2008 and July 2009. We study the first version standard of RCS, and its operations include enhanced phonebook, enhanced message and content sharing. This thesis addressed new documents and drafts published in recent years regarding to RCS thoroughly. We designed and implemented an enhanced phonebook service, which can inform friends Presence status in real time. Peer to Peer subscription in Presence caused a great dataflow and many other issues. We solved this problem by increasing a RLS server on original Presence server. We also designed and implemented an enhanced message service, which can send both real-time and offline multimedia messages, and save chat history records. In addition, we designed and implemented the mass message function based on the IM server, which can be called by the management platform. At the same time, a detailed analysis of the content sharing service, laid the foundation for the future design and implementation of the work.We developed the prototype system using C Language on Linux. The prototype system meets the basic needs of RCS system; it can communicate with a wide range of IMS UA which supports the RCS standard.
