The advancement of various technologies such as the network technology, video and audio compression technology and storage technology, and the increasing need for streaming media in the networks have greatly pushed forward the rapid development of streaming media technology. Streaming media technology has gained a wide field of applications with good prospects in video-on-demand, press release through streaming media technology, network advertisement, online broadcast, videoconference, distance education and other areas of information services.The transmission of multimedia content has taken most of the capacity on the Internet, which has led to the limited resource of bandwidth, the increase of time delay and the confusion of user management. In order to relieve the excessive pressure on the network and to meet the requirement of users, many new technologies have been proposed and applied. Among them are proxy cache technology and P2P network model structure.The present study, first of all, carries out research on the system structure of existing streaming media and proxy cache technology. Then data distribution strategies for homogeneous and heterogeneous network will be proposed and simulation experiments will be adopted to verify the reasonableness and effectiveness of data distribution strategies. Finally, the study will push forward the realization of streaming media system with Proxy Cache Server based on the data distribution strategies. The strategies which are proposed include system topology structure, cache mode, caching algorithm, data distribution plan and data replacement algorithm. System topology structure adopts a hierarchical mode, including proxy level and user level. Different designs for system user level will be produced according to the diversity between homogeneous and heterogeneous networks. Caching algorithm is based on elements such as the media popularity, user features and network bandwidth will be taken into consideration in the design. Data replacement algorithm is based on LFU, and data distribution plan is an important element for the design.
