Wireless sensor network has become one of the hot topics. Due to the limitations on size, power, storage capacity and communication capabilities of wireless sensor network nodes, a number of factors need to be considered for its design. This thesis proposes a ZigBee-based image capture node design after analyzing the wireless multimedia network node architecture. The node can be used for image capture and transmission, and can be organized into a network by using the ZigBee wireless communication protocol.In this thesis, we firstly analyze the concept of wireless multimedia sensor network and its system structure, characteristics and application fields. ZigBee is chosen as its communication protocol after the comparison of several short-distance wireless communication technologies. Secondly, we design the image hardware and software systems of wireless multimedia sensor network, including the node schematic diagram and PCB diagram, the node PCB debug, data transmission programming through wireless communication, the node control program and control platform software. Finally, experiments are performed to test the function of image capture nodes which are organized to make up a wireless mutimedia sensor network and to verify that image capture system of wireless multimedia sensor networks is effective.
