As a result of the rapid development of Internet applications, there are massive resources gathering on the network. However, these resources are mostly idle, which caused people to think how to use these idle resources to solve real problems. In the Internet environment, resources are growing and multiple, so it is difficult to use traditional centralized control method to manage these resources and the mechanism must be a breakthrough. Therefore, some computing technology have emerged, internet-based Virtual Computing Environment (iVCE) is one of those. It is built on the Internet infrastructure, on-demand aggregation and self-collaboration as the core mechanism to provide credible, transparent and integrated services for end-users or applications, in order to achieve effective resource sharing and convenient cooperation.iVCE-based distributed storage system as a typical application of iVCE, not only is it a positive verification of iVCE mechanism, but also will promote the iVCE ideas and iVCE platform for further refinement. Based on the preliminary study, this paper analyzes the shortcomings of the existing system and put forward the Virtual Distributed Storage Architecture, called VDSA. Distributed storage system based on this architecture is different from the other storage system, and the main difference is VDSA using the concept of Autonomic Element to encapsulate resources, using the mechanism of on demand collaboration to store resources and using self-aggregation mechanism to using storage resources. At the same time, because VDSA is built on the complex Internet environment, this paper makes a more detailed consideration on the backup mechanism and the synchronization mechanism. Preliminary tests show that, VDSA is able to provide robust, efficient and safe storage services.
