In recent years, with the development of multi-media technology and computer network technology, the technologies of digital video storage and transmission have made significant developments. Abundant videoes make people more and more frequently use them. To facilitate the users to quickly find the interesting video clips, we need efficient methods to manage database of video. In resent years, driven by the requirement, the techniques of content-based video analysis and retrieval have got remarkable development, and become a hotspot in field of information.Football games have a far-raging audience, therefore, the analysis and retrieval of soccer video is an important branch of content-based video retrieval.In order to meet the individual demands of the audience, it is necessary for football video content-based video analysis and retrieval. In this paper, combined the knowledge of sport videoes, we do the research of scene change detection in soccer videoes.Scene change retrieval is first and important step of content-based video analysis. The accuracy of detection has direct impact on the quality of video retrieval. In this paper, based on existing methods of scene change and characteristics of soccer video, we proposed a real-time detection algorithm, which can efficiently detect scene changes in MPEG soccer video. Through the combination of theoretical research and experiment, we obtain the following results:●We use the information of compressed video data to detect scene changes, including abrupt changes, dissolve changes, replay, and caption. The algorithm has some advantages:small amount of calculation, and real-time detection.●We extend the good method of abrupt changes detection to the field of dissolve changes detection by flexiblely applicate the information of macro-block (the statistics feature of time-domain and spatial distribution). It has a very good detection results by improved the methods.●Combined with features of replay and caption in soccer video, use the information of macroblock to detect them and get good results●We install the system on MPlayer, complete the code of our module, and proved by experiment. Experiments show that the proposed method can improve the recall of precision, and meet the requirement of highlight scenes detection in soccer videos. This article is the summary of academic research and experiment during the author's post-graduate study. It can be divided into the following seven chapters.In the ChaperⅠ, we explain some related background knowledge, and the work and results of author in the stage of post-graduated student.In the ChapterⅡ, we detailedly introduce the standard of MPEG, expatiate on related theory of MPEG-2, and explain the structure of soccer videos.In the ChapterⅢ, we detailedly expatiate on the existing algorithms of scene change.In the ChapterⅣ, we propose the algorithm of scene change detection in MPEG Soccer Video. The algorithm can detect the abrupt changes; dissolve changes, replay, and caption in MPEG Soccer Video.In the ChapterⅤ, we introduce the experimental platform (MPlayer), and install our module on the platform. Then we explain the process of our system and our module. And we explain the installation of our system and operation.In the ChapterⅥ, we explain the set-up of experiment in detail. And we prove our algorithm is effective and efficient.Finally, we summarize the main research and application work, and give some advices about of future research.
