With the advances of computer science,computer and information technologies have been used by China Post Logistics for enterprise management and operating. Over time, enterprise experiences are accumulated as enterprise data which contain certain patterns once the accumulation reaches a threshold.Consequently, new techniques and tools are needed to mine valuable information from the huge amount of data, make them directly useful and guide enterprise leadership team for right decisions.By analyzing the operating process of logistics industry,the article proposes an inventory-based Decision Support System (DSS) which is able to help enterprise leaders make right decisions,improve enterprise competitiveness and increase market share.First,the article introduces the latest technologies on DSS,data warehouse and Model base systems,demonstrates the importance of decision making and the necessity of inventory data analyzing in logistics enterprises, and then proposes the design considerations for building a data warehouse-based DSS system. After compared various alternative architectures of DSS, the design details on each component and working flow are presented.Second, the article analyzes the state of art of inventory-based DSS in logistics industry. Considering the requirements of inventory-based DSS and the trend of future purchasing in a certain period, the article determines the granularity and theme of the data warehouse, implements the system components and user interface, and acquires prediction and decision data by running the system.The preliminary results demonstrate that the design works well, the algorithm is reliable and the predication is accurate.The system implements the first step for decision support in inventory management and is able to meet its requirements.
