A wireless sensor network is spontaneous network formed by large-scale, tiny, low-cost, low power radio sensor nodes which are densely deployed in a large geographical area. Communications are enabled in an ad hoc fashion using low-power wireless communication technologies. Its primary purpose is to cognize, gather and analyze the information of objects within the network area. These sensor nodes measure ambient conditions in the environment surrounding them and then transmit these date to the control center. The internet constitutes a logical world of information and changes the way of communication between people. Wireless sensor networks integrate the logical world of information with the real world and change the way that humans interact with the nature world.Self-organization is one of the core technologies of wireless sensor network. In wireless sensor networks, all nodes work in a native collaborative manner for the same services. The collaboration nature of wireless sensor networks shows the necessity and importance of self-organization mechanism. In self-Organization, nodes take local information as well as their intrinsic properties such as energy or processing capability into account to decide its local communication structure with its neighbors. All nodes'local decisions result to an emerging behavior, a network wide organization. It is then served as an autonomous platform to support other network mechanism such as broadcast, routing and data gathering. In wireless sensor network, the energy cost or energy efficiency is a very important design goal.In this paper we primarily research the self-organization protocols for wireless sensor network. It has five sections. First we introduce the basic knowledge of WSN including its sensor node components, network structure and protocol stack. We simulate these protocol and do real test on Imote2 sensor node.In the second section, we focus on the characteristic of self-organization protocols for WSN.In the third section, we give the classification of the existing self-organization protocols for WSN. Then we introduce and analyze various WSN self-organization protocols according to the classification. In the forth section, we do some implementation works, we simulate FISCO, Flooding Tree and MIS-CDS. We find out that different structures might have different maintaining methods and then energy costs. A structure having less energy cost in its initialization stage might have higher energy cost in its maintenance stage. Then we think a structure which is not loop free has better overall energy efficiency in general. In the fifth section, we do some real test on Imote2 sensor node. Finally, we give some conclusion for the applicability of different self-organization protocols and future work.
