As the rapid development of network technology and business service, the network traffic presents a step-type-increase trend. WDM technology, for its large capacity, smooth expansion, is quickly developed and widely applied. At the same time with the benefit of WDM technology, which creates such huge capacity of fiber, the impact of network failure makes the network survivability more important.The traditional protection technology of fiber-optic, under the Protection of technology in optical network system, can be divided into IP-layer protection technology, SDH-layer protection technology and optical-layer protection technology. As the shortage of efficiency, cost or speed, the traditional protection techniques can't adapt to the current status of the network. Based on the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of other protection technologies and the current main issues of network security, an automatically switched optical layer protection based on fiber-optic-based was proposed. Compared to other protection technologies, this protection method is good at high reliability, switching speed and low cost.This paper focuses on the control system part of the protection system and presents detailed analysis of the composition of the control system as well as the design and implementation of the component modules. In this paper, the control system is based on ARM S3C2410 processor. The migration of Linux to ARM and embedded Linux development process is also presented. The control system is mainly made up by the serial communication module, network communication module and data processing modules. With the rational design of communication data frame format, and dividing functions of each module and multi-threaded programming techniques, the control system can finish the transport of the information of the base-board status and the server monitoring command very well. At the last, the prospect of the control system is presented.
