In recent years, virtual surgical training system is one of the most important research areas in virtual reality. It can be used in training new doctors as well as planning for real surgery. Surgical simulation scenarios which are the most intuitive impression to the trainers play a very important role in the virtual surgical training system. The real surgical simulation scenarios can improve the effectiveness of training. This paper focuses on how to render the more real surgical simulation scenarios and how to integrate them into the virtual surgical training system. This paper firstly studies the algorithms of fluid simulation, and realizes two of them, and selects a more appropriate one to simulate blood, smoke and so on. Secondly, the paper presents how to segment the relevant human organs from medical data and truly displays them on the computer. Then the paper researches the mechanism of Phantom which is a kind of force feedback device used for controlling the virtual surgical instruments. Finally, the paper presents a way of integrating the above-mentioned rendering modules into the system, and demonstrates that these modules have greatly enhanced the reality of the system through a series of experiments. The main achievements and work of this paper are listed as following:(1) We study deeply in the related literatures at home and abroad, and understand the related theories about blood simulation which are needed in this paper. Besides, since blood simulation is an application of the fluid simulation, also read many papers about the fluid.(2) According to the functional requirements of the laboratory system and the performance of algorithms, we select an appropriate one to simulate the blood from two different algorithms, and use the selected one to simulate the blood, smoke and so on.(3) We present how to segment relevant organs of the human from medical data and how to truly display them on the computer.(4) We research the mechanism of Phantom which is a kind of force feedback device used for controlling the virtual surgical instruments.(5) We present how to integrate the above-mentioned rendering modules into the system, and how to simulate many surgical scenes.
