Information opportunism is such a cross-proposition that has been reflected in multi-discipline. It also widely spreads in the media field. The truth of many events can not be open in time because of the information opportunism, which creates a lot of harm. As a result, doing an in-death research of the information opportunism has a great necessity and urgency. For now, however, the problem has still not been neglected by the academic community. The study of the issue is very few, almost a blank. For this purpose, the paper has adapted the "information opportunism" into the field of journalism and communication for the first time and did a preliminary study, aimed at attracting academic attention to this question and playing a "attract valuable comments" effect.On the basis of lots of analytical studies, the author made a preliminary definition of the concept of the information opportunism from the news media's point of view. Information opportunism refers that the source of information and media filter the information unreasonably through the selective publication and distorting the facts, in order to pursue their own interests, including economic interests, political interests and spiritual motivation and so on. What's more, the paper has done a detailed and comprehensive classification on lots of classic examples of all times and the most popular events in resent years, sorting out profoundly the serious harm of information opportunism. Then, the author conducted an analysis of the causes of the information opportunism and ultimately countered several effective measures for controlling over information opportunism.To conclude, the paper has made a lot of useful attempt on the study of information opportunism, including the definition of information opportunism and fully constructing a complete system of information opportunism. From a certain extent, it has laid the foundation for future research. However, due to fewer references and limited theoretical level, the paper still has many shortcomings:the definition is not scientific, the opinion is not deeply and discusses are also not perfect and so on. Therefore, the author hopes that more scholars, teachers and students can participate in the study of the issue for more in-depth research and discussion.
