Objective:The statistics of library is an important part of library work, it is work that could improve the scientific management level though the process of collecting various data, analyzing the quantitative relationship, finding problems and taking measures to the problems in the library work. It is the foundation of the scientific management of library, is one of the main basis for library work's prediction, planning, decision and evaluation. A university library is essentially a unity which is formed by the interaction of the document working staff, the document using staff, document information carrier, and other additional facilities and library environment. It could make the library be an indispensable part of teaching and scientific researching, play the maximum role in using the library's document information by researching the utilization ratio of books as a core. The Dalian Medical University moved to the new campus in 2007. The internal and external environment of the library has changed a lot after relocation. The expenditure of library was cut down largely after evaluation. And further study was needed to know how much influence on the utilization ratio of books and other parameters of library's statistics. So, this article statistically analyzed the utilization ratio of books, half-life of the new books, category borrowing and the borrowing rate of the readers in different identities between 2004 and 2009.The paper also supplied a scientific basis on improving library stocked book utilization and reasonably performing the library collection construction. Methods:The circulation data between 2004 and 2006 was basis on the past years'statistical report of the library. The ILASII and libsys automatic system of library supplied the data 2007 to 2009. Utilization ratio of books was calculated with the definition in< library science foundation> [30] which said what percentage the loaning quantity took up the total and the cycle ratio has also been done. The half-life of the new books was calculated through the methods given by LiuYuanjun[4].Results:The total collection of Dalian Medical University Library has been rising constantly from 2004 to 2009, the increasing range of cycle ratio was larger in 2005,2006 and 2008.The cycle ratio of the library's loan increased larger in the year 2004 to 2006.The cycle ratio of lending states in 2008 was a leap compared with 2007, and it increased less in 2009.The utilization ratio of library between 2004 and 2006 rose first and fell later. The loan ratio of books collected in 2004 has gradually decreased from 2005-2008, but increased in 2009. And the loan ratio of books collected in 2005 showed no significant differences from 2007-2009.The first three places of category borrowing were category of literature, medical and health and language. In the year 2007-2009, the loan ratio of teacher readers decreased year by year but undergraduates increased among the readers of different identities. Conclusions:The utilization of Dalian Medical University Library increased first and decreased afterwards in 2004-2009, but actually the ratio of books kept invariant or increased by a small margin. The half-life of professional books in the medical universities is longer, so the libraries should keep their own styles that the proportion of medical books should be enlarged. Our suggestions are the library should keep communication with teachers frequently as well as introduced Chinese and foreign professional works that were needed by the teachers. The loan quotas and loan period of the practice students should be increased in order to make the readers use the library resources more conveniently.
