Landslide on the reservoir bank is a kind of common geological hazard which has relations with reservoir operation, it is widely distributed and may do large harm. Currently, with the increasing of large hydraulic projects, problems brought by the bank landslide and its instability will be more and more evident and important. By far the research on landslide has mostly focused on the mechanics and physical process about the stability analysis but studies of movement process are still very few. This paper assumed that bank landslide has been under the conditions of instability, and it studies and implements the visual simulation method about bank landslide movement based on that in the reconstruction of three-dimensional model.The main research contents and results are as follows:(1) Three-dimensional (3D) model reconstruction on reservoir landslide. 3DSMax modeling tools and modeling features of OpenGL must be analyzed, because 3DSMax modeling for simple and poor interaction after the establishment, and the features of OpenGL modeling complex and good interactive, combined with bank landslide the needs of three-dimensional model reconstruction, which provided the program that achieves three-dimensional model reconstruction of a reservoir landslide by using 3DSMax modeling tool combination with OpenGL.(2) Reading 3DS files. Reading 3DS files is completed by using Visual C++ 6.0 and OpenGL programming, 3DSMax modeling environment and OpenGL to realize models cross each other as the way to complete three-dimensional modeling of reservoir landslide based on 3DSMax exported 3DS file format are conducted through detailed analysis and research. The experiments show that: using 3DSMax combination with OpenGL can establish complex models and achieve modeling interaction.(3) Simulation of reservoir landslide movement process. Concerning the characteristics of reservoir landslide movement, the basic principles of reservoir landslide movement are introduced, and it detailed analysis the factors that affect the stability, such as water level, rainfall, et al. The paper studies the landslide movement process under that factors in order to increase the reality that simulated landslide, and the paper also suggested introduction the particle system programs that landslide movement simulated process by using fuzzy objects such as, debris, dust, et al , which produced in the course of the particle system simulated reservoir landslide.(4) Bank landslide movement animated output. It briefly introduced the basic knowledge of computer animation theory and realized the animated display and output of bank landslide movement based on principles of the OpenGL animation that focusing discuss.In this paper, the reservoir bank landslide visual study proposed complex objects modeling method based on 3DSMax combination OpenGL, which has some general characteristics, and its visual realized methods that provide a reference for the research from digital to visual simulation.
