The cooling water discharge of thermal and nuclear power plants can usually be classified in the form of buoyant jet.In order to decrease the negative impact to environment,it must find out the mixing and diffusing regularity of cooling water which discharges into environmental water. The way we used usually is that physcial model or numerical simulation for forecasting the flow field and temperature field of water area which near the discharge orifices,Based on the previous studies, the research in this paper was focused on the characteristics of the flow near discharge orifices in the flowing ambient fluid. In the model test, The jet axis velocity and temperature in the near field of discharge orifices were measured by digital thermometer and pitot tube and analysed the atten -uate characteristics of jet axis velocity and temperature in different conditions. In the mathematical simulation research, The Reyonlds model in FLUENT software was used and the finite volume method, the SIMPLE method were applied to solve model equation. In this way we could get something about distribution of velocity and temperature in different conditions, trajetory of the jet, the attenuate characteristics of jet axis velocity and temperature, buoyancy gived its influence to trajetory of the jet and have researched decay of velocity and temperature in different angles,In the end,we could get some useful laws about the buoyancy jet.The comparisons of the calculated results with measured values showed their good agreement in whole. After had a research, some valuable results were obtained. The Reyonlds model and the measure we used simulated the flow near the discharge orifices in the flowing ambient fluid in this paper. It is valuable to study the regulars of waster water from the plants and how to decrease the effect on environment. It can provide some useful advices to diffuser's design.
