With the complication of the network size and configuration, along with the diversification of the network application, for network planning and design, research and development on network appliances as well as development of network protocol simply rely on experience or using real network environment, will increase the cost design of the network, but also can't adapt to the development of the network requirements. As a new network planning and design technology, network simulation can provide objective, reliable reference for network planning and design, network expansion and upgrading, network optimization, and so on, thus improve the network construction in scientific decision-making.Paper first introduced the technology of IPV6 used, make depth study of IPV6 routing protocol, the IPV4 to IPV6 transition strategy, then make discussion and research on OPNET network simulation platform, the modeling mechanism, discrete event simulation mechanisms, establish a typical M/M/1 simulation model of the queue extended network, make comparative analysis of influence on the simulation results with different parameters. To establish the campus network simulation model based on the actual campus network topology, for some common applications such as HTTP,FTP,E-mail configuration, and added data which is collected from combination of actual users' work and rest rules to the link model, simulated and analyzed the results on the establishment of the network model.Five network model were established for the coexistence of IPV4 and IPV6 possible network structure in the campus network, which are dual-stack model, manually configure the tunnel model,6to4 site model, the communication between 6to4 site and IPV6 site model, hybrid model respectively. We analyze the result of the simulation, comparing the difference performance with each other, and verify the feasibility of the designed network model. Then we get the final conclusion that we should adopt different transition strategies and mechanisms at different transition stages and different network environment, thus we were able to pay better small price for the successful transition from IPV4 to IPV6 network.
