Online science-technology cooperation communities (OSTCC), formed through the cooperative activities of science researches and technological developments on the Web platform, have played an increasingly significant role in daily sci-tech applications in recent years. One key issue on OSTCC is to study how to construct its computer support system to promote science-technology cooperation. At present, although there are many online sci-tech cooperation communities existing in the Internet, the systematic researches on the system architecture and the development technologies are insufficient. It also lacks a flexible and extensible system framework to support the OSTCCThe aim of this thesis is to study the architecture of the computer system platform that supports OSTCC. Around this issue, the conceptual basis is discussed, functional and architectural models of the computer support system are designed, and a reference prototype is implemented. What's more, as an ingredient part of the proposed system platform, a visual knowledge communication support tool for professional knowledge exchange is deliberated due to the critical role of knowledge communication plays in the functioning of the OSTCC.The main contributions of the thesis are listed below.Firstly, the conceptual model of the OSTCC is analyzed, from the perspective of collective intelligence of online communities; and a supernetwork model of OSTCC is deliberated. Subsequently, the fundamental functions of OSTCC are discussed.Secondly, it is investigated in this thesis how to use the Web 2.0 technologies to construct the computer support system that underlies OSTCC. The principal characteristics behind Blog, Wiki, Tag, RSS, BBS, instant message communication technology (IM), Social Bookmark, SNS etc. are thoroughly analyzed, under the inquiry of integrating these technologies to develop a OSTCC support system.Thirdly, an architecture or platform of the computer support system is suggested. The design and partial implementation of the suggested support system are thoroughly discussed. In the design the ideas like framework+application, layered design of software system are applied; and in the reference implementation, the technologies like software components technique, MVC design, full text indexing, cache, frontend optimization are adopted.Finally, to cope with the critical issue of interpersonal communications between the OSTCC members, the thesis gives a deep analysis on the professional knowledge communication process; and the essences of knowledge expression and knowledge comprehension in knowledge communication process is analogous to the idea of the model constructor operators (MCO) discussed in the expert system field. Consequently, a prototype of the visualized knowledge communication tool is implemented.In all, the conceptual and practical endeavors of this thesis may constitute a pilot study to foster further researches on developing computer systems to support OSTCC. The developed system framework is useful for quickly constructing actual OSTCC. Furthermore, the proposed visualized knowledge communication tool may also facilitate knowledge communications between professionals, potentially applicable in more actual contexts like the online tutoring systems and the collaborative argumentation and sense-making systems. It is also a good reference to the researches of knowledge communication and knowledge visualization.
